Today's piece comes from the journal Wigleaf. Wigleaf is a journal that posts pieces under 1000 words. I like this journal because it posts flash pieces from well known writers such as Steve Almond as well as pieces from writers I've never heard of. They're opening again for reading in September, if you're thinking of submitting.
Today's featured writer is Meg Pokrass, a writer who has published in various other venues, according to her website.
Her story "Delivery" you may have to locate by searching through the archives since I can't seem to link directly to it. Fortunately, you search very easily by author's name. While you're at it, you may want to check out the rest of the journal as well.
I like this story because it's about something very ordinary--ordering pizza--and something a bit more profound-- the longing for companionship. I hope you read and enjoy this story though you may not want to get as cozy with the pizza man as the narrator does.
