"Indian Summer"

I really like the lyric eeriness of this piece in the generally excellent journal, Stirring:

(Admittedly, they once published one of my stories. Does that mean my story is excellent?)

Do you like this story? How would you characterize it? Do we need to characterize it? I really like the density of this piece. What do you like about it? There's so much here--life, death, seasons.

In addition, there are some fine poems in this issue of Stirring that I would check out as well. Enjoy this story and the literature of fall.

"Delivery"

Today's piece comes from the journal Wigleaf. Wigleaf is a journal that posts pieces under 1000 words. I like this journal because it posts flash pieces from well known writers such as Steve Almond as well as pieces from writers I've never heard of. They're opening again for reading in September, if you're thinking of submitting.

Today's featured writer is Meg Pokrass, a writer who has published in various other venues, according to her website.

Her story "Delivery" you may have to locate by searching through the archives since I can't seem to link directly to it. Fortunately, you search very easily by author's name. While you're at it, you may want to check out the rest of the journal as well.

I like this story because it's about something very ordinary--ordering pizza--and something a bit more profound-- the longing for companionship. I hope you read and enjoy this story though you may not want to get as cozy with the pizza man as the narrator does.
